Longwood Rotary’s Student of the Quarter, Taryn McCormick, is a dedicated and passionate student. Taryn has been a member of the Interact Club at Unionville High School since she was a Freshman and served as president this past school year. Throughout her involvement, the service club has achieved a variety of notable accomplishments including raising over $5,000 last year for the Pulsera Project. This initiative allows students to support artisans from Guatemala & Nicaragua through colorful bracelet sales, providing fair-trade employment and awareness to their communities.

Taryn also has a great appreciation for Interact’s Rise Against Hunger, a nonprofit dedicated to feeding those in need. Last year, students from Unionville, Kennett, and Avengrove came together for over 6 hours in an assembly line packaging 10,000 meals for a nation in Africa. The experience has always been so much fun for Taryn and she takes pride in all that the event has contributed to our community and others the last few years. Through these programs, Taryn and other volunteers have connected with important populations far away, seeking a better world.

Not only is Taryn committed to feeding those in need and expanding economic possibilities for entrepreneurs, but she also has a passion for business and stewardship. Taryn has participated in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), proudly going to states and winning regionals. She plans to study business beyond high school at the University of Southern California. While there, she will be partaking in the Global Leadership Program where she will take classes and travel to Thailand for spring break.

Taryn always has a welcoming, kind smile on her face. She is wholly devoted to making the world a better place, especially in the Interact Club, which is her favorite thing to do at school. Her love for and devotion to making the world a better place is always apparent in the kind and giving way she conducts herself and her incredible leadership qualities. Good luck and congratulations, Taryn!
