Embracing the chance to perform is an experience that can be truly rewarding. Most adults would never have the courage to get on stage, but as an Upland student, you are encouraged and even required to try new things that may be out of your comfort zone. When you come to Upland, you will be playing new sports, participating in various academic classes, and working in the arts. When being a part of these activities you always gain new skills and experiences that will help you whichever way you decide to go in life. Whether you are an actor, set designer, or stage manager, you will be part of a show in some way.
Auditioning is one of the most exhilarating and scary parts of a show. It is an opportunity to try something new and step out of your comfort zone. For some people, it could be terrifying but for others, it could be no big deal. At upland, you would normally prepare a song or some lines to audition with. The thrill of auditioning, the anticipation of callbacks, and the excitement behind performing are all amazing feelings you get while working through a show. Additionally, being part of a performance encourages teamwork while everyone contributes to an amazing performance.
One of the drawing factors of an upland show is that you don’t just have to be an actor. At upland, the students do so much of the work during a performance. In addition to acting students are also costume designers, set designers, lighting and sound designers, directors, stage managers, and much more. Everyone has so many opportunities to showcase their talents and interests. Anyone who wants to do more in the arts than just the performance each year can participate in various honors art classes as well, these classes are in art, drama, and, music, where you can be in more advanced classes.
Overall, the experience of participating in a show at Upland isn’t just about the final product of a performance, but, the personal growth, creativity, and collaboration that unfolds through the entire process. Every student is shining in their position whether it be on the stage or behind the scenes, everyone is working together for an amazing end result. The supportive environment encourages everyone to take risks and come out of their comfort zone with support from their classmates and teachers. Upland provides the perfect platform to unleash your creativity and form stronger bonds with all your peers. Take your opportunities and allow your unique talents to shine!
